Portfolio for Andrew Tift - Commissionaportrait
Andrew Tift works in a highly detailed, intensely realistic manner and aims for an absolutely pure and objective likeness. Specific environments and narrative objects are often extremely important ingredients to his portraits as they can help to reflect and reinforce the sitters identity. Andrew Tift seeks to convey people in the most understanding, intimate and sympathetic way that he can and strives for perfection with every commission that he takes on . |

| Statement |
|
The initial meeting will take around half a day and will be conversation based. The specific ingredients of the portrait will be discussed such as; clothes, background, environment, narrative props, compositions, lighting, feel, mood etc. The artist will then take some initial photographs.
He will then return to the studio and develop an initial compositional rough based around the discussion which will be sent to the sitter prior to the next sitting.
There will then be a further 1,2 or 3 sittings of aproximately 5 hours each sitting, depending on the complexity of the composition. During the sitting Andrew may well make some sketches and colour notes but will predominantly be taking photographs.
The artist will then return to the studio to paint the portrait which will be delivered upon completion. So the actual amount of time he would require from the sitter would only be around 8-15 hours.
Due to the intense detail involved in his work the actual painting process can be quite time consuming (depending on the scale and complexity of the composition)
Andrew Tift is happy to offer advice on framing.
Travelling expenses will be met by the commissioner and will be added to

| Press Quotes |
Brian Sewell, art critic for the Evening Standard -
"Third prize was given to Andrew Tift for a far better picture and a true portrait to boot - a charming, old fashioned, famous man among his possessions portrayal of Tony Benn. It is to grace the walls of the House of Commons and is intensely likeable"
Laura Gascoigne,Editor of Artists and Illustrators Magazine -
" The resulting body of work is very impressive, not just for its skill, but for its humanity. What comes across very strongly from this painter is his enormous sypathy with his subjects"
Andy Willman of the Daily Telegraph -
"His work is a lot more startling than a 50,000 word thesis"
Simon Edge, art critic at the Daily Express -
"My favourite overall is an entry by Andrew Tift made up of two halves. One half shows an old man with owlish glasses and a chicken neck, glaring out at the viewer. On the other side, what looks like an old sepia photograph (it is actually painted) shows the same man as a dashing young officer in the First World War. We are being reminded that we have several faces in the course of our lives not just one and each tells a different story."
