Artist's Statement   "I guess the reason one paints people is because, unlike the camera, the image one ends up with is the result of literally thousands of glances at the subject over a length of time. The camera is just one glance over a millisecond.
During this period, a sort of synthesis builds in the mind, an ordering, a putting things into a self-supporting whole, which is only possible when one is making something over time.
A successful portrait is a sort of emblem of the sitter coming to terms with themselves, which the artist has created on their behalf. "

Statement      Portraits from life
Sittings can be in your own home or at the artist's studio near Matlock, Derbyshire. A head and shoulders portrait, for example, normally requires at least three two hour sittings.
Portraits from photos
It is often more convenient for clients to have portraits made from photographs, particularly of young children.
Chris is happy to come to your home to take photos for reference or you may provide your own.
However, it is always preferable for him to meet the subject in person.
Will carry out framing if required and can offer advice.
Prepared to travel within the UK, expenses to be agreed on a case by case basis.
