Portfolio for Felicity Baker - Commissionaportrait

Felicity has spent her entire working life painting murals to commission. It began with a tentative illustration of Sturminster Newton Mill around 1980; twenty years later she found herself producing 110ft murals of scenery on canvas for Covent Garden Festival 2000 as a case-hardened muralist with years of experience as a professional problem-solver. She works in oils, watercolour, gouache, and acrylics, painting a wide variety of subjects: portraits (mostly period and posthumous) animals; houses; boats; still life. Her main source of work lies in murals and Trompe L'oeil, commissioned by commercial and private clients.

Artist's Statement   "I am constantly aware of the subjectivity involved in personal choice of art.
The job of a commissioned artist is to tap into that subjectivity in order to express the client's individual take on the world."

Statement      Murals:
Felicity makes an initial visit to the mural site wherever possible, to measure up, and take photos. Where building work is not sufficiently advanced to view the mural area, she works from architect's plans and elevations. During the initial visit, she discusses possible ideas with the client.
Back in the studio, she prepares roughs with accompanying reference material to illustrate possible designs to the client. Once a design/idea is agreed on, she produces a scale watercolour visual.
She has a flexible attitude when working on site and suggestions for minor
additions and changes are always treated benevolently!
Murals on canvas or panel are treated in exactly the same way as those painted in situ and may be painted in the studio or at the site itself.
Prices for murals would be determined once the project has been discussed.
Posthumous portraits:
Felicity works with photographs and researches thoroughly to give the right
period details and atmosphere to commissions and liaises closely with the client over the pose and setting for the portrait.
