Kevin MA Cunningham was born in Ayrshire, Scotland After studying illustration at Duncan of Jordanstone School of Art, Dundee, from 1982-86 (obtaining a first class honours degree), he went on to work successfully as an illustrator in London, illustrating books by Mark Twain, Frank O'Connor and Anne Tyler amongst others for publishers Pan, Faber & Faber and Penguin. In 1994 he became a full-time portrait painter after one of his paintings was chosen for the Royal Society of portrait painters exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London, 1994. Cunningham has since exhibited widely. He currently lives and works in Notting Hill, London, and pending portraits include Brian Sewell (art critic), Lady Alice Douglas and family.
Introduction   Kevin M.A.Cunninhham was born in Ayrshire Scotland. After graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone School of Art IN 1986 , majoring in illustration , he went on to work as an illustrator for Publishers Pan , Faber &Faber and Penguin amongst others. He became a Portrait Painter in 1994 after his painting was accepted for the Royal Society Portrait painters annual exhibit. Commmended at the BP portrait awards at the National Portrait Gallery in London, he was awarded 2nd prize in 1997 with his painting of Phillip Knightley the Spywriter. His painting of Brian Sewell the Art critic was chosen for the 2003 exhibition.  
Cunningham had his first now man show at the 20th Century theatre in Notting Hill in 2008. He was guest artist on Sky TVs ' Mastering the art' with master forger John Myatt . His painting 'From Warsaw to Westbourne' was included in the 2011 Royal Society of Portrait Painters exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London .  
Kevin currently lives and works in Bloomsbury , London.
Education   Duncan of Jordanstone School of Art, Dundee 1982-1986. Graduated with First Class Honours degree.
Awards   Second prize BP portrait award 1997. (B.P subsequently used the painting to advertise the awards in Vogue, Tatler and Spectator Magazine).  
Commended portrait painting, BP Portrait Award 1994 & 1995.  
Works chosen for Benson & Hedges Gold Awards for illustrators and photographers, Hamiltons Gallery, Grosvenor Square, London. Followed by national tour, 1986.  
Won Elizabeth Greenshields Canadian Scholarship of $8000 two years in succession, 1985/86.
Selected Commissions   2003 -Portrait of Brian Sewell chosen for BP Portrait awards subsequently exhibited at National Portrait Gallery.  
2006- sketch for Sir Tom Stoppard auctioned at NPG 150th anniversary celebration.  
2008- Commissioned to paint Peter and Autumn Phillips.
Group Exhibitions   `Motoring Artists' annual exhibition Dover Street Gallery, London. 2000.  
`50 self-portrait's' show at Six Chapel Row Gallery, Bath. Works included portraits by Lucien Freud, Maggi Hambling and Humphrey Ocean amongst others. May 1998.
