Portfolio for Gabriel Corcuera Zubillaga - Commissionaportrait

Gabriel's work explores with genuine passion the beauty of human beings and attempts to celebrate them as they are, moving away from overstylized, romanticised versions whilst retaining a sense of mystery, driven by desires and openly vulnerable his figures when most powerful enrich and inspire.

Artist's Statement   All my work deals with aspects of portraiture in different mediums the photography is more contextual, while the paintings simplified approach of colour and form focus on the timeless presence of the sitter and celebrate the beauty of human beings.

Statement      Initially I meet with the client and discuss ideas for the portrait, at this point I arrange for a photo session to take place where I may also produce some drawings to familiarise myself with the subject, this takes up to three hours. At this stage I may follow one of two procedures, I either begin work with the photographs as reference or I arrange for regular sittings to paint entirely from life. Sometimes if working from photographs I may ask the client to sit again to add the finishing touches to the portrait. The portrait may take up to two months to complete. My work is often complete without the need of a frame, however I am happy to advice on framing if required.
