Artist's Statement |
|
"I endeavour to produce a good likeness whilst capturing something of the subject’s character. From dialogue with the sitter, the correct expression can be identified and a suitable pose established." |

Statement |
|
An initial meeting is useful to discuss different ideas for the portrait. It is helpful to know where the picture is to hang so that the size, background and formality of the portrait can be established. The clothing to be worn by the subject for the sittings can be agreed and the style of framing can also be considered. By the end of the initial meeting I try to ensure that prospective clients have all the information they require to proceed with the portrait. Having established the size of the portrait a decision can be made on how many sittings will be required. The sittings last for about two hours - less for children. Most of the time is spent posing for photographs - this minimizes the time the subject need sit still. A small amount of sketching and note taking will also take place and this reference material enables me to start work on the portrait without asking for further sittings.
It is preferable for clients to attend the studio for sittings or photographic sessions where appropriate. This allows for optimum pose and lighting for each portrait. However, the artist will travel where required that these costs will be borne by the client.
A suitable frame usually costs about 20% of the portrait price. Framing is not usually undertaken by the artist but she is happy to provide advice or assist if required. |
