Portfolio for Julian Barrow - Commissionaportrait
Painting only in oils, Julian Barrow is best known for his town and landscapes as well as paintings of country houses – he has painted over 800 in his life. He is also a distinguished painter of interiors and conversation pieces.
Born in Cumberland, Barrow has lived most of his life in London. After a very brief period at art school, he worked for a year as an apprentice in the restoration department of the National Gallery, followed by several years studying in Florence. More than thirty years ago he moved to Tite Street, where he works in a studio building occupied at various times by Whistler, Sargent, Glyn Philpot and Augustus John.
Though based in London, he has travelled extensively, painting wherever he goes. His paintings hang in private collections throughout the world. He has exhibited more than twenty times at the Royal Academy and exhibits regularly in London, New York and the Middle East. He has been President of the Chelsea Arts Society for the last fourteen years. |
