Portfolio for Ian Cryer - Commissionaportrait
Born South Gloucestershire 1959. On leaving school Ian Cryer set out to become a full time artist initially labouring to pay for his evening classes and tuition under Leonard Boden RP.
He established his own painting classes in 1981 and continued exhibiting and developing his work. Portrait painting has always featured strongly in his work and he has for many years painted characters in pubs. He still lives near to Bristol with his wife, children and two cart horses that he has kept for many years and drives in his spare time. |

Artist's Statement |
Likeness, freshness and spontaneity are the qualities i aim for in my portraits. I like the paintings to be about people as well as like them, so surroundings familiar to the sitter are an advantage ie at home ,in the local pub or at work. |
Statement |
I paint mostly from life, where possible i like to complete the work in one sitting or series of sittings on consecutive days. Thumb nail sketches are sufficient for my purposes but preliminary drawings can be produced if required by the client. |
