Portfolio for Georgina Maynard - Commissionaportrait

Georgina Maynard has spent most of her life working as an antiques dealer and journalist in Europe and the States. Based in Dorset for the last twenty years she has worked with many international designers and written for a wide selection of prestigious art magazines. Five years ago she decided to retire from her previous businesses to dedicate her time to painting. This journey has taken her back to becoming a full time university student. ' A wonderful and stretching experience - but I soon decided that portraiture was where my passion and ability lay.' She has always been interested in animals particularly dogs and horses, riding all her life she understands and has studied the underlying anatomy and brings this to her work. She loves painting people, especially accompanied by their animals, and feels this brings another dimension to the work. Most of her commissions so far have come by word of mouth.

Artist's Statement   I hope to make the whole experience of the commission to be enjoyable and comfortable. To meet the client' expectations, ideally surprise and exceed them, thus creating a painting that will give them, their friends and relations pleasure for many years and to give something that they can pass on through the generations.

Statement      Usually I like a minimum of three sessions with a client spread over a 4 - 8 week period.
Regardless of subject I like to meet the client, preferably in their home and discuss the project in detail,
It is extremely important to me to capture something of the essence of the sitter, be it animal or human!
I want to take into account the client's taste, surroundings, feelings and emotions. Having spent a few hours, talking, sketching and taking photographs, we look at them together on the computer and decide on the basic principles. At the second session the portrait will sketched out and progress discussed. The final session is to check colours, to make sure the client is happy with the resulting portrait and discuss the framing.
