Artist's Statement |
I enjoy working as a portraitist expressing my fascination for the human person. Beauty is each person’s truth and that’s what makes portraits so interesting and a real artistic challenge. Painting portraits, I am looking for presence, individuality and depth simultaneously seeing to that it also has to be a painting on its own, where the tactile qualities, the composition of contrasts and the balance of colours make out an aesthetic whole.
I paint murals with portraits, landscapes, cities, houses, animals ... I find inspiration for my murals from the surrounding atmosphere of the house and adapt style and technique to the context. The murals are executed on large canvases painted in my studio, which then are fixed on the wall by an upholsterer. |
Statement |
For a portrait we will generally start with one or two photographic sittings of 3 hrs each, where I also make quick drawings or oil sketches on paper. I then realise the portrait in my studio and may ask the client to sit again to add the finishing touches. Initial and final sittings take place at the artist’s atelier in Paris close to la Bastille or at the sitter’s residence/workplace.
I do share my time beetween Paris and Copenhagen and I am prepared to travel abroad; expenses to be agreed on a case-by-case basis. |
