Portfolio for Katharine Dickinson - Commissionaportrait

please add info
Birth date   1960
Introduction   I was taught portrait painting by my portrait artist father Norman Dickinson, a painter of U.S. aristocracy in the late 20th century. I studied fine art at the internationally renowned Slade School of Fine Art in London. Trained in classical painting, I paint portraits in oil and acrylic. My paintings are distinctive for their use of rich and vibrant colours. I seek to capture the emotional spirit of my subjects in the mood and expression of each painting. Currently I am exploring the use of modern tools in portraiture, using a combination of traditional and digital techniques that reflect the beauty and raw spirit of people. These techniques allow an extensive exploration of colour variations and combinations, as well as the versatility of reproducing the image on different media. The diversity of texture and brush strokes in new media techniques evoke a modern spirit that embodies contemporary portraiture.

Statement      My preference is to spend a couple of hours with the client to find out what they are looking for and to make sketches and colour reference notes. At this time I also take a series of photographs. I then send the client a colour mock-up of the proposed portrait. Once the mock-up is approved, I begin work on the painting. Depending on the client’s preference, I can do classical painting in oil or acrylic on canvas, or digital painting printed and stretched on canvas, including hand-painted elements.
I am based in Vancouver, . Canada, but spend several weeks each year in London, U.K.
