Birth date   4th August 1979
Introduction   Caroline’s artistic training includes a BA Honours degree from the University of Exeter and tuition at the Byam Shaw School of Art. Caroline has also spent, and continues to spend, a considerable amount of time honing her approach to portraiture at the Princes School of Drawing. She comes from a line of painters and her own artistic talent was first recognised at the age of three.  
Caroline’s particular ability as a portrait painter became evident while she was studying for her A’levels and at the age of 17 her teachers advised her to submit work to the National Gallery’s prestigious BP portrait award.  
For the last few years Caroline has been focussed on honing her portraiture skills and finding her individual ‘voice’ as an artist. Although spending most of her time focussed on development in the studio, her work and refreshing, down-to-earth approach to portraiture has generated column inches within the Independent, the Guardian and the London Paper…among others.  
Caroline is 31 and lives and paints in North London.

Artist's Statement   I want my portraits to fulfil two aims, to be a beautiful reflection of the sitter and to be a work of art in their own right. I like to keep my portraits simple and I feel it is unnecessary to ‘romanticise’ the style of my work to make it attractive. Every sitter has their own unique beauty and I try to represent this as truthfully as I can without convoluting it with a contrived style. My approach is very honest, staying true to what I see with my eyes and using a style that comes naturally to me. Every painting has a life of its own and allowing for the organic and living process which occurs between artist and sitter will create a portrait which is a work of art.  
Another trademark of my approach lies in my use of colour. The President of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters described me as keeping a “clean palette” in my approach which I feel refers to how my love of colour means I keep it naturally vibrant in my work.  
As I am an artist, and not a businesswoman, I take great pride and care in all the work I am commissioned to do, “I am only as good as my last painting.”

Statement      I would always advise my clients that the best portraits are the result of live sittings with only clothing or background details finished from photographs. Portraits completed in this way look more beautiful and alive, they also allow for the important dynamic between sitter and artist. However, if sitting is an absolute impossibility I am able to produce portraits from photographs but generally charge a bit more for this method of working.  
The first phase of the portrait process involves speaking to the client about what they would like and then advising them on the best way to achieve this in terms of size and composition. I would then seek to understand as much about the sitter themselves as I can before deciding on the final plan for the work. This includes some time spent chatting informally to the subject of the portrait before sittings begin.  
Sittings would be arranged at a time convenient for the client and, if appropriate, can take place in their home/ work environment. The time it takes to create a portrait varies according to its size and the level of detail a client wants. It is also a piece of art so is not an exact science and I would not finish the process unless I was totally happy with the result. However, to provide an idea, a head and shoulders oil painting from life normally involves around five sittings of 2/3 hours each.  
Once the painting is completed I can also organise the final framing of work.
