Portfolio for Robert Beckett - Commissionaportrait

For Robert Beckett, life as an artist began in 1985 whilst travelling the world after obtaining a degree in Biochemistry. It wasn’t until 1989 that he began to concentrate solely on art. In 1990, after travelling to France to explore painting from nature, the artist returned to pursue sculpture and portraiture further. He soon gained recognition for his bronze, oil and pastel portraits and has been occupied with an increasing number of these ever since. He now completes over 60 commissions in various different media every year.

Statement      “I like to capture people in their own surroundings. Nearly all of the paintings and drawings of children are done from photographs that I take when they look bright and healthy, say, at the end of summer. I will try to fit the commission in with a specific date if this is desired. Whenever possible, I like to paint adults from life. As it can take up to ten sittings for full-length portraits, these sessions will be spread over a period of months. Portraits are delivered unframed but I am happy to offer advice. Sculptures are all carried out from life, usually six sittings which are spread out over a few weeks.”
