Portfolio for Vivien Mallock - Commissionaportrait

Vivien Mallock's career has encompassed a wide range of portraits and other commissions in bronze, ranging from individual half life size portraits of infants and children to 9 foot group war memorials in France and central London. Early on, she completed a number of projects in Normandy and England during the run,up to the anniversary celebrations of D Day and VE Day, whose subjects were inevitably military in character. However, her more recent work has included sensitive and intensely personal portraits of HM The Queen Mother, HRH The Prince of Wales and Brian Clough. Not all her work is portraiture; she recentl;y completed a life size statue of a Vintners' Company Barge Master and swan in the City of London.

Statement      General: The price list quoted is only a guide, since there are so many ways in which to complete a bronze commission. Bear in mind that much work needs to be done in the foundry after the artist has completed the sculpture and it is important to ensure that all involved in the project know what the client is after. It is therefore vital that the client and the sculptor remain in close contact throughout the period of work.
Sittings: This depends on the complexity of the piece, but between two and four sittings are ideal for a living subject. If this is not feasible, photographs may suffice. If the subject is no longer alive, the more photographs available, the better.
Timing: An average head/bust may take up to 3 to 4 months to complete, depending on the amount of work undertaken at the foundry. Larger works will need to be planned with some care to ensure that the finished piece is completed on schedule.

Press Quotes
' I just had to write a word of sincere congratulations on the beautiful portrait head of Queen Elizabeth , quite a feat in such a short time, marvellous in fact. Just think of all the pleasure your work is going to give countless people. '
Clarence House, residence of HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.
' I went for a stroll along the seafront recently to see the new statue of Monty. I wanted to pay my respects for old time' s sake. Having done that , I looked across the road and saw the statue of a wartime soldier that brought tears to my eyes, It captured the scene that all wartime soldiers had seen thousands of times, having lived through hell- I know I will never meet the sculptor of the statue, but I would like to say thank you on behalf of all wartime servicemen for a statue which captures the realism for generations to come, so they know what we went through. '
Letter to the Portsmouth News - 13 June 1997
